Diane is the owner of Cox’s Armored Mini Storage Management, Inc., a management company specializing in mini storage management. She currently manages 18 storage facilities and is a part of the ownership interest. Her professional experience also includes 28 years in property management and accounting with various inter-related companies of a developer in the Phoenix area. Diane serves as AZSA President and sits on the Executive, Membership and Trade Show Committees.
Jeff Gorden, owner/operator of a self-storage facility in Tucson, has been a commercial real estate broker for over a decade and the top producer for Eagle Commercial Realty Services since 2010. He has extensive transactional experience in self-storage and retail properties. Jeff believes strongly in community stewardship and has served on the Board of Adjustment in Chandler, Arizona since 2008, most of that time as Chairman. Other service includes Chairman of the Chandler Leadership Institute and member of industry groups such as the National Association of Realtors, CCIM Institute, and AZSA, where Jeff serves as Vice President and served on the Trade Show Committee and as District Liaison. He owns and manages a number of properties including self-storage, apartments, and rental homes. Because of his own experience, and relationships with many AZSA members, Jeff believes that AZSA plays a crucial role for the smaller owner and strongly believes in small facility representation on AZSA's board.
Martin is president and co-founder of BPI Capital Management, Inc., a real estate firm specializing in self-storage development, management and brokerage, amongst other types of real estate. He has been a real estate broker since 1982. He is also co-owner of Arizona Storage Inns, a leading Arizona based self-storage company and a real estate broker. Anne Mari DeCoster has devoted over two decades to advancing the cause of the independent self-storage owner/operator. She serves as Chief Operating Officer of Storelocal, a storage co-op of independent owners, which exists to solve independents problems. The co-op's mission is perfectly aligned with Anne's goals to help independent owners compete with the publicly traded giants, even the playing field, keep their independence, and strengthen their businesses. She is helping launch the Storelocal Voluntary Brand program and the Storelocal Protection Plan. Anne also works with Storelocal's sister company, Tenant Inc., which is developing the industry's first operating system designed by owners, for owners.
Anne served 10 years as AZSA's as Executive Director and currently serves as AZSA's Secretary. Prior to AZSA, she was worked with a self-storage developer and was involved in every phase of developing projects around the country, from concept to exit. Her consulting career started at Booz Allen & Hamilton and includes extensive work in the areas of defense, transportation, real estate, and energy. In the public arena, Anne has worked on every level of government (local, state, and federal), in every branch (executive, legislative, and judicial), on projects varying from investment strategy to technological R&D to national security. She is honored to also serve on the Board of Directors of Charity Storage, the official Charity Partner of the Self Storage Association. Anne holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science from Georgetown University. She is happily married with four grown sons and a delightful golden retriever.
Bill Alter is Managing Director of the Self Storage Group at Rein & Grossoehme Commercial Real Estate With 30 years of experience in commercial real estate specializing in the acquisition and disposition of self storage investment properties, Bill has helped countless owners of storage facilities, including individuals, partnerships, public institutions, pension funds and lenders achieve their goals for their self storage properties. He has provided consulting services, assisting clients with feasibility and buy/sell decisions.
Mr. Alter is a founding board member of the Arizona Self Storage Association and currently serves on the executive committee. In 2008, he was recognized with AZSA's Self Storage Pioneer Award for his significant contributions to the association since its inception in 1996 and his continued dedication to the professionalism of the self storage industry in Arizona. James is Director of Sales, Special Risk,for MiniCo Insurance Agency, overseeing customer storage insurance and collectibles programs. Since 2007, he has also been active in his family's self-storage business, The Rudel Company, Inc., in commercial real estate sales & leasing and self-storage property management. He worked for storEDGE in both web development and facility management software sales, and in publishing advertising sales with the Mini-Storage Messenger. James also has a successful web design firm, Barking Tuna Web Design, that provides web design, graphic design, social marketing, and search engine optimization for small to medium businesses. James has played an active role in AZSA's technology related decisions for over a decade and he currently serves as Chair of the Technology Committee.
Poppy is the Publisher of MiniCo, Inc. publishers of Mini-Storage Messenger, Self-Storage Now, the Self-Storage Almanac and Development Handbook, RV & Boat Storage Today, and Self-Storage Canada. Since joining MiniCo in 2000, Poppy has been actively involved in the self-storage community through serving. Among other appointments, she is the Chair of AZSA's Conference and Trade Show Committee, and she is on the Executive Committee. Prior to joining MiniCo, she was the Associate Editor of Newport Beach magazine and worked as a freelance writer since 1990. Poppy is also a member of the American Society of Business Publication Editors.
David Brown is Director of Self Storage for Wentworth Property Company, focusing on all things related to development. He is part of a team developing and acquiring properties all over the country. Prior to specializing in self-storage, he spent 7 years in Philadelphia working for a commercial real estate developer who specialized in adaptive re-use of historic properties. Kent Greenwald, former AZSA Board member and his father-in-law, introduced David to self-storage and he loves every aspect of the industry. Serving on the AZSA Golf Committee, he has helped bring the annual tournament to new heights, benefiting both the association, our members, and the charities supported by the tournament.
Matthew Hall is Regional Manager of Stadium Properties. He joined Spensa Management / Desert Storage in 1998 as a store manager and served as Operations Director from 2003 until their acquisition by Life Storage in 2017. An experienced property manager, sales leader, and business development expert, Matt has strong leadership skills in strategic planning, management, team building, customer relations, and operations, as he builds revenue and manages growth for enterprise level self-storage businesses with multi-site operations. Matt is originally from Minnesota, graduating from Minnesota State University in Mankato, MN with a dual major in Marketing and Management in 1998. Matt relocated to Phoenix in 2009 with his wife and two daughters. Matt and his wife are active members with Arizona Small Dog Rescue of Phoenix, a non-profit rescue shelter.
Korey Hanson, President of Professional Self Storage Management, joined the company in 2004 as an Area Manager overseeing 18 self-storage properties, mainly in Arizona. Over the years, he played a major role in the company’s growth and created its marketing plans and training programs. Korey is directly involved in opening new storage facilities, from the early stages of development through stabilization, and contributes greatly to their success. Currently, he oversees all day-to-day operations for over 75 Professional Self Storage Management properties located in 10 states. In addition to operations, he also focuses his efforts on new management acquisitions, client relations and revenue management. Korey graduated from U of A in 2002 with a BS in Business Management. He is a native of Arizona and is married with two young children. Korey joined the Arizona Self-Storage Association Board of Directors in 2014.
Whitney Jurjevich is an independent Owner/Operator of 2 self-storage projects in Phoenix’s East Valley. In 2013, he began his career in the world of entrepreneurship when he bought his first self-storage facility – Ameri Park RV & Boat Storage. Living in Arizona for the last 12 years, Whitney grew up in New Jersey, joined the Marine Corps at 18 and spent 10.5 years enlisted, traveling the west coast and overseas as a helicopter crew chief on Huey's and Cobra's. He left the Marines in 2004 and moved to Prescott, AZ to work in public safety for the Town of Prescott Valley, until moving to the Phoenix area to work for the City of Tempe, also in public safety. Whitney currently serves as an AZSA Director.
AZSA Owner/Operator & Associate/Vendor member, Andy began his storage career at National Self Storage in 1992. His positions over 12 years ranged from Area Manager, Head of Consulting, Commercial Property Management of Office Warehouse, and he finished his career at National as Chief Operating Officer. He managed daily operations of the company's 90 storage facilities, commercial properties and personnel. Andy ventured out on his own in 2004 and started A. B. Kelly Realty (Self Storage and Commercial Property Management) and Sierra Self Storage Consulting, a full service national and international company specializing in operations training and market / feasibility studies. Andy was the Southern Arizona membership liaison for AZSA for many years and also serves on the Board of Advisors of the New Mexico Self Storage Association. He graduated from University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1985.
David is Managing Director of Self Storage for Wentworth Property Company, focusing on all things related to self-storage. This includes the acquisition of existing facilities, ground up development, conversions and joint ventures. Dave has over 10 years experience in the self-storage industry. He joined WPC in 2015 to help drive the company's desire to grow into self-storage. Before joining WPC, Dave was the Vice President of Business Development at Westport Properties, Inc., a self-storage owner/operator out of Irvine, CA. His overall background has been in sales and business development, with a proven track record of generating a variety of new partnerships. These partnerships have assisted in the closing of multiple transactions in various states across the country. Dave is an Arizona native and lives in Phoenix with his wife and son. He attended the University of Arizona, serves as the Immediate Past President of AZSA, and is a Life Member of the Executive Council Charities, a non-profit corporation dedicated to providing grants to other non-profit groups that focus on helping the youth of Arizona reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens. In his spare time, Dave enjoys playing golf, fly fishing, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
Richard has been in the storage industry in the Phoenix area for over 30 years. He was the founding president of AZSA, and is its lobbyist at the Arizona Legislature, where he authored many of the self-storage industry's laws. An attorney, Richard is also the creator of most of AZSA’s forms. He is a regular speaker at AZSA educational workshops around the state, and his articles appear regularly in AZSA’s newsletter, Behind Closed Doors.
Ray started in self-storage with U-Haul in 1983, where his 15-year career included many positions: Store Manager, Area Field Manager, AFM Program Manager, and Marketing Company President of Chicago Metroplex. At U-Haul, Ray assisted in land purchases, self-storage acquisitions, due diligence, entitlements, coordination with contractors, and facility operations of company owned moving centers or 3rd party managed dealerships. Ray is the Designated Broker of record for Arizona Mini Storage Management Company / Storage Solutions, which he joined in 1998. Since then, the company doubled in size through various joint ventures, 3rd party property management and branding affiliations. In April of 2015, Storage Solutions became a PRO (Professional Regional Operator) for the NSA (National Storage Affiliates Trust), a self-storage Real Estate Investment Trust, which went public through an IPO (Initial Public Offering) in April 2015 on the New York Stock Exchange.
Carol Mixon Krendl, a well-known self-storage industry expert and owner of SkilCheck Services, has been involved in the industry since 1984. Carol worked as a corporate trainer for a large self-storage developer with sixty-nine properties and trained over 200 managers. An expert in the self-storage field, she has written many articles on a variety of industry topics, including a quarterly newsletter on sales and customer service. Carol has years of experience as an educator at industry events.
On the national level, Carol has been active in the Self Storage Association since the mid 2000s. She has utilized her degree in secondary education by being active on the Education and Membership Committees. Carol also served as President of the SSA's Western Region, Director on the SSA Board for over 10 years, and on its Executive Committee from 1998-2001. Carol was also on the Board of Directors for the California Self Storage Association.
SkilCheck Services came about to help Carol educate owner/operators on the importance of good customer services skills in the self-storage industry. Carol is always ready to help out with expert self-storage advice for everyone.
Alonna is the Business Development Manager for StorageAuctions.com and has been part of the Self-Storage industry for over a decade. During that time, she has helped self-storage owners and managers with products such as Truck Rentals, Management Software, Tenant Insurance and now Online Auctions. Throughout her career Alonna has participated in hundreds of Self-Storage conferences, trade shows, educational sessions and networking events across the country. Alonna is passionate about Self-Storage and hopes she will be able to bring fresh, new ideas and insight to the AZSA Board.
Belinda Rosthenhausler is a Commercial Sales Executive with Clear Title Agency of Arizona, focusing on marketing and new account acquisitions in self-storage and other sectors. She has more than 16 years of commercial real estate lending experience and 6 years in title/escrow services. Building relationships is one of Belinda’s strong skills, which she has demonstrated as an active participant in AZSA, regularly attending, supporting, promoting, and sponsoring association activities. A native Arizonan born and raised in Tucson, Belinda also serves as vice president of the Central Arizona Chapter of CCIM, committee member with Valley Partnership, and is involved in AEC, SIOR, and NAIOP.
Chris has built, owned and operated self-storage facilities in the Phoenix area for over 40 years. He has been involved in real estate development for 45 years in the Arizona and Nevada markets. He is a licensed general contractor, real estate broker and has served as president of AZSA.
Tarik Williams is a life-long resident of Arizona. He was raised to understand that nothing in life is free, but that quite the reverse is true. From a young age he spent many summer days and occasional school holidays with his father and brothers sweeping out storage units, tying reinforcing steel, and running screw guns. Through these experiences with his father, he developed a love for construction and chose to attend Arizona State University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s of Science in Construction Management and a Minor in Business. He paid for his own schooling with scholarships and working as a real estate broker, during which time he was awarded Realtor Magazine’s ‘30 Under 30’. He took a two-year hiatus from his studies to serve as a missionary for his church in Spain where he learned to understand and appreciate the Spanish people and their language.
After graduation, Tarik partnered with his father at TLW Construction and is now serving his 14th year as vice president and also helps to manage a sister steel company - Caliber Metal Buildings. During this time, Tarik has shared responsibility for the design and construction of roughly 4 million square feet of self-storage and through this experience has developed a reputation as one who understands his trade and takes special interest in the operability and functionality of the finished product. Tarik has developed three storage projects on his own account resulting in valuable knowledge gained from the owner’s perspective which he is able to implement in his construction client’s projects.
In his spare time, Tarik enjoys coaching Little League Baseball, backpacking with the Boy Scouts, and camping with his wife, Jamie, and seven children (yes…seven).
Amy is honored to be serving as AZSA's Interim Executive Director. Amy comes to AZSA, most recently from the business finance industry. Her passion for building relationships and assisting others will help continue AZSA's mission of strength, professionalism and quality in the self-storage industry.
